2010 SUMMER CAMPS AND WORKSHOPS
FAIRY TALE BALLET CAMP
(AGES 3-4) Mon – Friday 10:00am – 12noon, June 14 – 18
This pre-school indoor dance “camp” is every girl’s dream. Each day the Camp Director will read a classic fairy tale with participants and then guide their young imaginations to bring the story to life as a story ballet. Stretching, strengthening, and balancing games are intermingled with the exercise of fundamental motor skills and imagination for a winning experience each day. Participants are encouraged to bring dress-up costumes to share and should pack a juice box or light snack for break time.
FAIRY TALE BALLET CAMP
(AGES 5-6) Mon – Friday 1:00pm – 3pm, June 14 – 18
This Fairy Tale Ballet Camp follows the same program as the morning session but with the greater development and detail of which 5 & 6 year-olds are capable. Participants will stretch and strengthen their bodies and imaginations as they team up to produce their very own story ballet each day! Ballet terminology, technique and history will be included and an informal performance will conclude each day of the camp. Participants are encouraged to bring dress-up costumes to share and should pack a juice box or light snack for break time.
DANCE DIMENSIONS I
(AGES 7 – 12) Mon – Thursday 10:00am – 2:00pm, June 21 – 25
Workshops include ballet, jazz, modern dance, history, nutrition, choreography and repertory with special focus on developing flexibility, strength and friendships. The immersion experience of Dance Dimensions brings your young person “to the next level” with new-found insights for the next training year. An informal performance caps the week for a winning summer dance experience. Open to students who have been enrolled in Ballet II/III or IV and new students at the discretion of the dance director. *New students should mark the box on the registration form requesting an interview & audition with the Director.
DANCE DIMENSIONS II
(Teen/Adult) July 12 – 16, 2010 NEW YORK CITY
This intensive dance seminar includes daily training in classical and contemporary dance in the dance capital of the world. Classes include ballet, pointe, jazz/hip-hop, modern dance and gyrotonics with a special focus on intermediate technique, musicality, personal artistry, physical flexibility, strength and friendships. This DBS intermediate intensive is for the teen/adult student ready to “take it to the next level” personally and professionally.
BELLYDANCE WORKSHOP
(Teen/Adult) Saturday 1:00 – 5:00pm June 26, 2010
Get into the act with a new perspective on dramatic expression! This fun and informative belly dance workshop will open up a new world of personal awareness and self-expression while teaching the skills of this classical performance art. Excellent for actors, dancers and curious explorers looking for exercise, friendship, fun and/or personal enrichment. Workshop includes training in bellydance techniques as well as explorations of the history, philosophy, clothing and performance aspects of bellydance. Participants should wear comfortable attire and bring a bottle of water.
CHILDREN’S THEATRE WORKSHOP
(7 – 12) Mon – Friday 9- 12pm July 5 – 9, 2010
This workshop is for the budding media or stage star! Each day begins with vocal and body warm-ups and a session of theatre games to develop the acting genius within. A lunch break with Great Moments in Theatre (on video) is followed by sessions that aid in script memorization and character development. Participants bring a list of miscellaneous household and clothing items to use as props/costumes to spur the imagination. An informal performance will cap the workshop on Friday at 11:30am.
TEEN/ADULT THEATRE WORKSHOP
(Teen/Ad) Monday – Friday 1:00-4:00pm July 5 – 9, 2010
This skills-oriented workshop will begin with vocal and body warm-ups together with improvisational acting games to develop dramatic skills. Participants will take sessions in voice, acting and scene study with specific focus on scenes for an informal public performance on Friday at 3:30pm.
2010 SUMMER CLASSES
CHILDREN’S BALLET
Mondays 3:30 – 4:30pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This class is a basic level course for those who have completed at least one semester of Ballet II/III or IV and new students in this age group (6-11 yrs old). The level of technical difficulty will be determined by those who register and individualized coaching will be emphasized. This is a mixed-level basic course that continues the fundamentals of ballet training presented in the regular training year and prepares new students to integrate into the ballet curriculum in the Fall.
BEG/INTERMEDIATE BALLET (TEEN/ADULT)
Tues 4:00 – 5:30pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This is an invigorating and artful exploration of classical ballet and a good weekly exercise program! Includes the basics of technique, artistry, flexibility and strength training. This class is suitable for the recreational dancer who simply wants to explore the joy of dancing or the more experienced dancer who wants to take a basic class en pointe. Hair should be pulled back from the face and neck and a modest leotard is worn with tights and ballet shoes and shorts or skirt (women) or T-shirt, shorts, socks and ballet shoes (men).
ADVANCED/INTERMEDIATE BALLET
Thursdays 4:00 – 5:30pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This class is for the more experienced or professionally-minded dancer who needs to keep dancing en plat or en pointe to feel great all summer. Those enrolled at this level in the regular training year and newcomers with prior advanced intermediate experience are welcome. Recommended for those enrolling in Dance Dimensions II, NYC.
JAZZ/MODERN
(Ages 8-Adult) Tuesdays 5:45 – 6:45pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This intermediate dance class is a must for anyone wanting to increase coordination, flexibility, physical strength and cardiovascular health in a fun, energetic work-out. Our clean music and supportive environment makes this a weekly dance class not to miss.
TAP 1
(Ages 5-10) Mondays 4:45 – 5:45pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This basic level class open to continuing tap students as well as new students in this age group. Basic tap warm-up followed by tap exercises at the barre and in the center. A fun and exciting addition to summer training for young people! Tap shoes required.
TAP 2
(Teen/Adult) Mondays 6:00 – 7:00pm Summer: June 7 – July 31 (No class July 5th/Make-up Aug 2) Hoofers unite! Enjoy the sweet sounds of making music while you move. This basic tap class includes warm-up exercises at the barre and progressions in the center. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your singin’ shoes.
YOGA
Saturday 9:00 – 10:00am Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This class for teens/adults involves yoga exercises to assist in the gentle releasing of body tension & mental stress and incorporates stretching & strengthening exercises. As a gateway to enhanced flexibility and a preparation for resistance training, this class will strengthen you without stressing you out! Harmonize mind, body and breathing to work effectively together for a lifetime of optimum wellness. Good for sedentary adults, active seniors, moms, athletes & performers. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat/large towel & a bottle of pure water to drink on the way home. Sign up for evenings / mornings 1 – 3 times per week.
BELLYDANCE
(Teen/Adult) Thursdays 5:45 – 6:45pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
This traditional Tribal Belly Dance class (not to be confused with Cabaret Style) is all about women getting together to celebrate life and beauty while toning and exercising to great music in a supportive fellowship environment. Led by amazing belly dance performer Stacey Nolan, this class is a journey into movement for non-dancers and dancers alike as they learn the uncommon skills of this ancient art form.
DANCING FOR BIRTH

ZUMBA!

This new DANCE/EXERCISE craze is sweeping the country! This is a great workout routine for body, mind and cardio health in a fun, energetic dance aerobics class. Incorporates a variety of dance styles and great music for good health. Dancers, non-dancers and beginners welcome!
BALLROOM DANCE
Mondays 7:15-8:15 Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
A basic course in rhythm and smooth ballroom dance styles. Instructors Rose Patterson & Jeremy Burgin will teach you what to do on the dance floor at weddings, cruises, proms & dance parties! Or you may just want to spend time with someone whose company you enjoy. An excellent relationship builder & exercise activity.
INTERMEDIATE BALLROOM DANCE
Saturdays 6:00 – 7:00pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
(No class July 10/two-hour dance party July 31)
A more advanced exploration of rhythm and smooth ballroom dance styles. Take yourself and a friend/spouse to new heights of skill on the dance floor and in your relationship! (Partner not required but recommended.)
HIP-HOP
HIP-HOP (Teens) Saturdays 11:45am – 12:45pm. Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
It’s not just in LA anymore. Full-body/mind work-out with funky progressions and quirky choreo a la Black Jak’s latest discoveries. Incorporates hip-hop vocabulary and skills with an occasional martial arts twist.
MARTIAL ARTS MOVES
Saturdays 1:00pm–2:00pm Summer Session: June 7 – July 31
The unique set of knowledge and skills learned in this class will set you apart in choreographed fight scenes used extensively in stage, film and television productions. This Kung Fu-based movement class is also great exercise and just plain fun to do. Each class begins with basic stretching and warm-up exercises, then proceeds with movement lessons from specific schools of Kung-Fu (such as Tiger, Crane, Snake, Leopard, Shaolin Fist, Eagle Claw, Monkey and Praying Mantis) Please note: this is not a self-defense class. Participants will learn skills for theatrical use of martial arts and will work together to develop a dramatic movement scene that tells an exciting story. Participants should wear comfortable attire (sweatpants and shirt) and bring a bottle of water.
